I need a light meter to measure foot candles. I originally bought another meter that I didn't like and felt cheap, so I returned it and bought this one based on another review of the product. My initial disappointment was that the battery cover has a small Phillips screwdriver the size of the electronics. Cap screw that must be removed to install battery. Since I didn't have such a small screwdriver, I had to buy one. I think that's some kind of design flaw. Either make a standard size screw, include a small screwdriver, that fits, or at least make a note in the product description that you need a screwdriver the size of the electronics. As soon as I removed the battery cover, there was a new battery inside, a plastic battery. It was tight in there and I had to struggle a little to get it out, but I finally made it and connected the battery. Now for the good: When the device worked, I was very satisfied. The readings are very fast when you move the sensor. I wasn't too sure about the detachable sensor at first, but found it an advantage. You can hold the meter in front of you when moving the sensor to different places instead of moving the entire meter and it will be harder or impossible to see on the screen due to glare. Can't beat the price and serves my purpose. I definitely recommend this device and the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because of this
