Replaces OEM Visteon 1C3U-11000-AE with 2002 Excursion Diesel

I've only used it one day so far - and it's amazing - but I want to share my research and experience with Revain buyers. The description says this unit only replaces 3 bolt starters - this is not true. My 2002 Excursion has an OE Visteon 1C3U-11000-AE starter that is on the approved replacement list - and it only has 2 bolts. Like I said - I've only used it for a day and it's amazing. If there are any problems in the future I will update the review. Now: Other things I learned from my research and 3 hour install experience: -- Removing an old starter can be very difficult or very easy. Mine had a bit of both. The oil soaked starter case bolts came off with finger force (no kidding). The power and signal bolts on the solenoid immediately dislodged. I had to use a saber saw to cut the copper stud from the cable. The new starter fitted without sanding my Excursion's frame, but I didn't like it and had to put my teeth in the hole first and then twist the 30lb starter until it went into the cavity. Looks like a gap of about 1/4 inch with the frame. -- I read a review on the Ford website by a VERY WISE person. He screwed an extension cord into the power and signal lines. I think this is the easiest and best method. Some people have said that they connect the wires before inserting the starter into the cavity. I don't understand how this can work because there just isn't enough space. Taking the time to add extension cords will save you hours of frustration. (in my case).-- If you don't use an extension cord (like I did), it's necessary to straighten the clip on the power cord because the new pin is in touch spacing, not on the side at the end. I also had to file the inside of the hole on the clamp to fit the bar, but not by much. - Unless you go the extended route (like I didn't) you're going to get very frustrated trying to screw the signal cable to the pole. I ended up doing this by finding a longer screw (1 inch) with the exact same threads (luckily I have that old parts basket - but you can buy it at the hardware store). I also attached the signal cable to the other side of the stand as there is no access to the side the screw comes with. I highly recommend buying a 1" bolt and reheating the threads on the other side of the starter while it's still on your rig. It took me a total of an hour to figure this out. If you are ready this wire is here One Job Minute Good luck and I will continue my experience after using the starter for a while.
