This collar was very helpful when teaching my Akita not to run away. We've had several scary instances where she accidentally got out and ran faster and further than we could walk. After it came out a second time, I realized I needed a more efficient approach to this behavior. Now she lives close to home and comes back to me when called. The behavior was fixed in just a few days. Now I can effectively control them even when distracted by other dogs and even rabbits. I tried it on my arm before putting it on my dog. The "shock" is barely noticeable to me, but surprisingly effective on her. If you are concerned that it is inhumane for pets, I would encourage you to give it a try. I hope you never have a running dog, but if you are faced with the possibility of your dog running away, being hit by a car, or injuring a smaller animal, I think this is an effective option.
