My first diamond stone and holder. Not sure what I should have but I'll tell you what I have. I brought an old set of wood chisels back to life. My old brick set was a set of three Lowes Smith bricks about 5 years old. The center of the middle stone was worn out and the small one was also starting to bend, so this setup got roasted. I sat down at 400 for a few hits on the old chisel and then switched to 1000. It didn't take long to get the whole set back to razor sharpness. I know this is probably not a professional way to check sharpness, but I use a block of basswood. I take a chisel and use the weight of the blade to cut a strip of wood, a very thin strip. There was no need to apply pressure, just let the weight do its job. I liked it and all 4 bits were ready to go. I also optimized my current chisel set. I don't use a bigger sharpener; Now it's like sharpening a knife, I just "find" the angle and let the blade do its job. I often feel the angle of the blade as it swings between the front and back. I just feel the rest. You need to practice in those moments when you may not have special equipment to make sure everything is perfect. And my edges don't always come out perfect, and I still need to work on that a bit, but I'm doing better.
