I must say that it is quite difficult to find a reasonably priced shogi board in the USA Find. But then try to find one that can take the rigors of a collage backpack that, if it breaks, won't bust your wallet to replace it. As a newbie to shogi, I thought it would be great to have a board like this, take it with me and teach it to my friends, and in the meantime, I might as well improve it! It was a great purchase, I was excited for its arrival and was not disappointed. Each part is double sided as it should be and there is a small magnet inside the clamped plastic part. These aren't strong magnets, but are strong enough to easily play on the bus or in a jerking car (who wants to play shogi upside down?). For the plastic model kits you build, all you have to do is detach them from the frame and scrape off the remaining unevenness. If you pull the parts apart, which isn't difficult, you could lose the magnet or something else, so don't do that and you won't have any problems. The case/board is made of durable plastic with a metal playing surface and comes in a fairly sturdy cardboard box to protect it from dust, scratches, light rain, etc. It's small enough to fit in a backpack or large purse I suppose, but not too small like some other kits I've seen that almost require tweezers to play with. This set is just the right size for beginners who find it difficult to remember the symbols on the figures. Some final things I would like to say are that there is no way to separate the pieces in this set (mini boxes etc) and no figure stands like some more experienced players may use for that. Overall, however, this is a good shogi set that will provide you with many hours of strategic fun and, if handled well, will withstand the rigors of everyday use.
