The Wix appears to have a larger surface area than the standard American Motorcraft. The OEM air filter is significantly stiffer, supports its own weight and has limited flexibility. I'm not sure if that means anything I've noticed. The Brazilian-made Wix filter, on the other hand, has more folds and they are deeper. It also bends under its own weight. Since the filter is sealed all around I don't know if this will be a problem as I can't see through the air filter housing when the engine is loaded. In short, I'll probably go with the OEM Motorcraft filter. Engineers from every car brand perform so many tests that it's generally best to use OEM parts for each manufacturer.
