Review on ACDelco Specialty 504-511: Top-performing Rear Air Lift Shock Absorber for Unmatched Suspension Performance by David Cronin

It works, but plan ahead.

Purchased to replace non-standard GM air shocks. They are acceptable replacements for the originals, but differ slightly (e.g. the air connection is in a different location; the mounting studs have been replaced with the special mounting screws provided). Just because they say they will fit your vehicle doesn't mean they are the best choice for you and you may need to purchase an accessory kit for your application or purchase a different brand. If you're using these as a replacement for a standard self-leveling air system (the car has its own air compressor and senses ride height to adjust the pressure to the correct level), make sure your car's system is still running (i.e. the compressor is silent). ). blow out air). Just because you can hear the compressor running doesn't mean it's pumping out compressed air (for a quick check, disconnect the in-line connector on the compressor and feel the high-pressure air). If your auto leveling system still works, they sell an accessory kit that includes a pressure control spring with a different rating (than the original spring) installed in the car's compressor and rated for these replacement shocks (perhaps by a higher 25 lbs per square inch minimum pressure). If that sounds like more work than you planned, yes it is. I believe they are in fact Gabriel shocks renamed ACDelco (typical industry practice). Monroe also sells replacement air shocks, but I can't tell if they're the best solution because I haven't bought them (they cost more but can be worth it depending on what you need to do). If you want to plan ahead, or want information on what to expect during installation, you can download and read the shock absorber instructions before you buy (visit ACDelco, Monroe, or Gabriel websites). If you're buying them as replacements for non-air shocks, installation is pretty simple and straightforward. You may want to have some nylon zip ties on hand in case you need them, although hose clamps are included you will need to drill a hole to use them and there isn't always room for that. The hose can easily be routed through frame parts etc, but at some point you will need to secure the loose hose.
