I am a mountain bike but bought them for road cycling. I have flat pedals on my mountain bike because I don't think I'll switch off in time. The reason I bought them for the road is because I absolutely despise the way cycling shoes look and feel. They are great for road biking and after putting them on I can say they are great for mountain biking. The cleat is recessed so that you walk on the sole of the shoe rather than on the cleat. So when you get off your bike and go out to eat, you won't look like you're walking on ice or hear the annoying noise of metal and concrete.
