Operates by direct contact with live circuits.
I was concerned that a power leak could cause an electric shock, especially in high humidity. It also sometimes responded to a well-grounded circuit. It's probably a good tool to test the wire before touching it with your bare hands. Not suitable for non-contact circuit tracing.
