Good size for jug, lid is too difficult to open

Perfect size, not too wide for my jug. But the lid is too tight! I have to use needle nose pliers to open the strainer by pulling on the tab at the top. Tried buying a second one to see if it was an accident with the first one (because I like the size) but no. the second is also incredibly difficult to open. Back to my two smaller ones with screw caps that are easy to open.
