Long post but highly recommend reading BEFORE purchasing this unit. I bought the unit about a year ago (3000 miles) and will say it "caught" some wiring issues at RV parks. We had to wiggle the fork more than once to make the earth "work properly." We did a winter hike in December and on our first and second stop we had to wiggle the fork to get ground contact(?). At our last stop on the way home, we plugged in the device and the device counted down (we have a remote display) and then nothing. I checked the plug and nothing. I changed it to a 30 amp plug (we have a 50 amp service) and nothing. So the display that usually tells us what it's for is blank and it's getting cold and dark. I call the surge protector, leave a message and email them too (they tell you to email them when you call). After I had to disassemble the memory to visually inspect it, it showed a malfunction. Again, the remote display you pay all the money for tells you what's going on, but still doesn't work. I connected to another pedestal/campsite and finally got power. Did Surge Guard call me back the next day? I contacted Surge Guard a week ago to see if there was a way to bypass the lock in an emergency. Note that in the event of a device failure, there IS NO WAY the RV will be powered until you REPLACE the device. If you're carrying a portable inverter generator like me, it's useless if it fails. Surge Guard responded to my email with instructions to contact the RV manufacturer or dealer for possible ways to bypass THEIR component. Surge Guard sells this on the basis that RVs are built without electrical protection, but they instructed me in two separate emails to contact the RV manufacturer. When I asked if I installed my own bypass, it wouldn't harm the unit. In response, they recommended me to contact another manufacturer / install another device! Not impressed with customer service for something that costs more than the competition. So I will remove this device and install the Hughes autoformer.
