Purchased because my projector did not play sound on some recorded movies and limited it to movies with AC3 codec or >2ch surround sound. Using this box and removing audio from HDMI allows my entire library to play audio regardless of codec or surround mode (5.1, 6, etc. all plays perfectly with no lag in my theater amp). There are a few different settings that you might need to toggle on or off depending on your surround sound or you'll get noise, but that's easy to figure out. A very handy device if you have a large library of movies shot from different sources and in different formats.
