My wife got me a Roku soundbar for our living room/study but we found that the old TV didn't have the upgraded HDMI port we needed decreed. This device plugs in between the TV and the soundbar and now works great. You'll get an error message from time to time, but all you have to do is unplug the HDMI cable from the back of the soundbar and you're back in business.

This little box works flawlessly to extract audio from an Apple TV HDMI signal to optically route it to our soundbar. Used it with our existing system and updated Apple TV without dedicated audio output. My only comment is that sometimes it can lose the signal when pressed and the HDMI cable needs to be reinstalled so keep it in a safe place.

I bought this extractor to connect a Fire Stick to the extractor and then HDMI to my Onkyo receiver which is an audio only pass through type. I also connected the optical cable from the extractor to my receiver and assigned the correct optical input to the appropriate HDMI input on the receiver. I'm still only getting video from my projector and can't hear surround sound. I will change my rating if Tendak helps me get the job done as I think it should solve my problem.

Purchased because my projector did not play sound on some recorded movies and limited it to movies with AC3 codec or >2ch surround sound. Using this box and removing audio from HDMI allows my entire library to play audio regardless of codec or surround mode (5.1, 6, etc. all plays perfectly with no lag in my theater amp). I use this converter with my Amazon Fire Stick TV instead of having a real TV. So I connected the Firestick to the converter and connected some speakers to the other end of the converter. The converter allows me to access everything that is on the Firestick. I'm using the voice presentation on Firestick and listening. This also works for Apple TV.
