First, I ordered an XB43 exclusively for the upcoming trip. I originally wanted to buy the JBL Charge series for portability but stumbled upon the XB33 which led me to this beast. I took a chance and pre-ordered it instead of going with JBL (always didn't find the sound of their gear what I was looking for). I have to say this is exactly what I wanted - a solid, tight bass and EQ mix control to help bring out whatever style of music you might be into (I play mostly rock and EDM, my wife loves hip hop and country ). Before I received this I took a chance too and ordered an XB33 for my wife. Our previous Bluetooth speaker was the SRS X5, so obviously both speakers are noticeably better than what we had. That being said I have to say that when I take the XB33 alone I don't notice much of a difference between them. The XB33 has the volume and bass you need, it's amazingly loud for its size, lightweight, portable and floats on water - a huge bonus. Party Connect I noticed a difference in the sound. Both speakers have clean sound, but it's clear that the XB43 has more power and more depth overall. Of course, the XB43 is literally twice the size and weight - it's still very portable compared to a wired speaker, but not quite as portable as the XB33. I would be careful. If you didn't like the stroboscopic lighting in the center of the speaker, Sony has a few options in its app to just light up the LED strips on the side, or you can just turn them off altogether. Also, the live sound feature is one of the coolest additions I've ever heard: songs you've heard hundreds of times sound completely new and in a great way, with the background sound properly emphasized. You seriously can't go wrong with either this or the XB33. If you get an XB33, chances are you'll never hear a difference in something you miss. When you choose the XB43, you get an incredible speaker that can travel and withstand the elements. Expect to get all the bass and sound you want to hear, but don't expect the bass to blow your mind like you're listening to a subwoofer that was built to go nowhere - that's not the point of this one speaker system.
