Update: Broke after 2.5 months

Update: While I initially liked this skimmer, it broke after just 2.5 months of moderate use. It wasn't a mesh bag which I expected to go bad, but a small piece of plastic that holds the skimmer to the pole. If it can't handle 2.5 months of Arizona heat, it's useless to me. First Review: We have a swimming pool and a mesquite tree that provides lots of shade in the backyard and about a million tiny leaves that inevitably end up in the yard. Swimming pool. A lot of skimming is required to keep the pool nice. This skimmer looked heavy and clunky until I read more closely and saw that it was floating. It lies flat on the water's surface until pushed or pulled, and then the front or rear portion sinks down, collecting whatever floats on the water's surface. It's a lot more efficient than I feared. You need to assemble it, it's easy to do. Simply mount the basket to the frame, then insert two poles into the end of the small handle and slide into the frame. In one of the holes that the rods go in there is a spring that holds the whole assembly in place. You can empty the basket without removing this handle, but it's easy to remove if you want. It's not as easy to empty as a flat strainer, but you don't have to do it nearly as often. has flotation material, the frame is wider than a standard skimmer or skimmer basket so you can't get that close to the edge of the pool but that's a minor thing for me. It also doesn't pick up things off the bottom of the pool well, things my pool cleaner misses. You provide your own stick but if you have a pool you probably already have one. This skimmer fits into a standard stand with a small plastic tab that snaps onto the stand like most similar products. I still keep my old shallow skimmer to pick up palm leaves from the bottom of the pool and occasionally save bees. But for actual leaf collection and removal, this skimmer is my new best friend.
