Weatherproof and reliable for less than $200 but older single-band radio

When you open the box you will most likely be surprised at how small this thing is - definitely smaller than I expected. with the supplied U-bolts. After installation, you also need to work on the wiring. The access point is powered via PoE, so you must use the included PoE injector or a PoE switch/hub/router. Once up and running the control panel isn't too bad and I haven't had any issues. reported here in older reviews, which means StarTech managed to fix this in the current firmware. The range is pretty decent, the device has a relatively decent omnidirectional antenna, and the coverage outside my home was much better than when plugged into my house. routers. However, of course, coverage was only on the 2.4GHz band as it is an older single-band radio. I have an 802.11ac range extender in my garage that gives almost the same coverage as this outdoor access point. The price of this device is not acceptable as there are many other outdoor devices at Revain with much lower specs (e.g. Ubiquiti networks). pico device). However, none of these devices are as rugged as this one, so if weatherproofing and ruggedness are your thing, this StarTech is pretty much in a league of its own.
