Works as advertised.
Good for removing ash from long smokes without affecting the temperature too much. I used to have to pull out the coal box and sweep out the ash with welding gloves. This ash tool solves that problem by allowing me to get to the charcoal box without disturbing the fire. This is not for a chimney, but for a side firebox. It is too short to use in a fireplace, which is why there are negative reviews.
