This is a very well made grain. it's strong Metal doesn't bend, plastic doesn't break. Of course you can use them on your apples as they are designed for them. I, on the other hand, love making unique fun little characters out of veggies like potatoes, turnips and more. Cook them carefully and go crazy covering your fancy dishes. Take the excess vegetables and make a kind of puree sauce. No waste!
