Review on Durable DEWALT Diamond Blade for Precise Wet Tile Cutting - 10-Inch x .060-Inch (DW4764) by Adam Gambel

Blades not compatible. Can be great or useless

I had some bugs on the XP4 blade, I've used it quite a bit and I've been very satisfied. So I ordered a new one for a new project. I made two cuts on porcelain stoneware and it chipped the tile badly. A hand grinder with a conventional diamond blade cuts better. The tile in the photo on the left is cut with a new XP4 drive and on the right with an old drive. Zoom in and see the difference. Very disappointed with the inconsistency. The problem, I think, was in those "curly" slots (unfortunately I didn't take a picture before sending it back). Even scratches on the yellow paint are visible on the old blade. The new blade had the varnish on the blade intact, but then clear scratches on the blade varnish came off at each slot. This means that a blade with a solid rim (those slots aren't technically solid) didn't even come close. It was more like a segmented diamond wheel with the segments not aligned so the stoneware had chipped off. This may not be a problem for those cutting softer material, but I'll probably go back to Bosch solid-edged porcelain blades that don't have "curly" expansion slots. Expansion slots are a good idea in my opinion, but not for wet sawing. It's wet, so heat dissipation isn't an issue. Stick to a really solid edge of the blade.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Some bugs
