Ordered 13th August. Just received today. Starting with the 500, the new 520 has many features that I love. One thing about the 500 switching between bike profiles, I had to go into menus, bike settings, etc. to select road or mountain. Then click Return to Screen. 520 allows you to customize each profile from the start with its own display, warnings and automatic settings. Then when you're ready to ride, just select your bike and you're done. Like this feature. Another feature I like is the history, the time in the saddle is shown for each bike. So when you drive in the mountains, on the road and indoors, it separates how many kilometers you have driven each and when you press enter you get the total kilometers. This is a feature I personally like. It has many other features, too many to list, but so far the system works great driving around. It takes some getting used to that from 500 everything is the other way around. On the right are the select buttons and on the left is the menu item. With 4 years of muscle memory, it took a little time to get used to her flipping. The menu structure is similar to other Garmin Edges, so navigation is intuitive (once you get used to the upside down buttons). I really don't know why people say it's hard to see on display. I changed my settings to "Day" and "Auto" and had no problem seeing the screen without the backlight. I also didn't turn on Bluetooth or set up a Garmin connection on my phone as this is a known issue where Bluetooth keeps dropping and downloading your ride from the Garmin Connect phone is extremely unreliable. I'm waiting for them to fix this issue after a few firmware updates. Another thing that caught my eye is the new cadence sensor. It's great to set up and I had no trouble pairing it with the 520, but I did find that registering the frequency took a little longer compared to the old style. It takes about 10 seconds to display the cadence compared to the old cadence which took at least a few seconds. I'm aware that there are bugs and issues that need fixing, but that's the price we pay when we get a brand new product. There will always be some hiccups and it will take a little time to set up the system, so I understand that when I'm launching something new. The 500 has gone through some firmware updates and I suspect the 520 has too. I'll check the updates in a few months to see if my opinion on the 520 has changed. Edit 2/10/15 is a follow up to a Garmin with just over 200 miles on it. Garmin has been flawless so far. I've never had any issues with sensors shutting down or Garmin shutting down unexpectedly. Just to clarify, I have the kit installed and have not tried any other DI, Fenix, Hrm Run or other devices. Exactly what was in the box. I activated BT with Garmin on my Samsung S5. Samsung works with Lolipop and updated. I also added the Garmin Connect app to my phone. The pairing was flawless. Everything was included and I have made several trips with everything included. Never disconnect or lose connection. When the ride ended, I saved it and completed the update in a few seconds or less. I then checked Garmin Connect's "Activity" and indeed my ride was already posted. With BT on, a 1-hour ride uses about 8% of the battery per hour. I've searched the Garmin Edge 520 forum and it seems that some users are having trouble pairing with their Apple 6. The solution was to factory reset the 520 and then pair it again. Many problems have been solved with the new firmware released on 10/01/2015. Some of the issues I observed were that HRM-Run now works fine, as does fenix. The new firmware 3.0 has many fixes you can search on google. I may have been lucky, but the 520 was a pleasure to drive.
