All our umbrellas broke within the first couple uses

I really wanted to like this umbrella. We bought 3 for my kids, and at this point, 3 of the 3 umbrellas are broken, so I would not classify this as sturdy umbrella for children. We've had them for a year now, but every time we open them, we wonder if it will be the last. Also we do not use the umbrellas that much because we do not live in a rainy area. The umbrella is very easy to open and close, so that is the one thing my kids have appreciated. But the umbrella is quite large. Do not expect it to fit inside a backpack for school. If your kid isn't using the umbrella, they will have to hold it the entire time which can be problematic for small children as they tend to set things down and forget about them. The first time my 7 year old took his umbrella to school (also the first time he used it), I watched a taller kid accidentally bump into him, and the umbrella frame easily broke, and now the metal is popping through the fabric. My other son played in the backyard in the rain (maybe the second time we used the umbrellas) and we are having the same issue with his. The metal frame is broken and ripping the fabric. The umbrella has this cloth design that covers the metal frame work on the underneath side of the umbrella, so if a piece of it breaks there is no way to look at the problem and try to fix it. So far my daughter's umbrella is the only one that's not completely broken. It opens and closes easily still, but a piece of plastic has come loose on the handle, and it won't stay in place anymore. We are not impressed with this item.

Pros
  • Super cute and sturdy.
Cons
  • More likely to get tangled with other items kids are carrying
