Review on Park Tool Bicycle Spoke Wrench: Ideal for Square Nipples by Joe Michels

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best/Fastest Sport

These Park Tool spoke wrenches are the best I've found for adjusting spoke tension. They're quick to put on and take off, and while they sometimes slip off, they're much easier to use than other spoke wrenches. It's better to have one that fits your particular bike than one with multiple sizes. And it's ergonomically bent to fit, so you can get used to fitting it quickly and turning it the exact amount for each spoke. Unless Park Tool improves on that design, don't worry about anything else. Also, a spoke tension gauge is needed to avoid over tightening. At first I thought that pinging the spokes would be enough. And yes, it gets you a little closer, so it's still useful. However, a spoke tension sensor is required to determine the correct tension for your spoke type and to maintain consistency when loosening/tightening adjacent spokes. It's fiddly to use and costs a lot more than this spoke wrench, but it's worth it. (It doesn't have to be the same brand.) What I would change: * Think of a way to keep it from falling off the spoke when spinning (bending and plastic wrap help, but not enough). Do you feel this process? should be automatic. That a spoke wrench should be paired with a tension gauge and tightened to the correct tension at the push of a button. But until it is invented, this spoke tensioning tool is indispensable.
