Toasting My Bourbons in the Midwest

If you're looking for these toast bourbons, there's a good chance I recommended them on the Facebook group we're in together. A friend at the local bourbon club gave me a sample of Michter's Barrel Strength Toasted and I really liked it. The realization that I could never find my own made me very sad. A few weeks later I was at a local gourmet supplier and they had a new product called Oak and Eden Toasted Bourbon with a wooden spiral inside. Bottle. My gears spun and I landed on Revane looking at those spirals (after picking up Oak and Eden). I liked the O&E and the roasted flavor but realized it was "only" a 4 year old bottle from MGP. I thought how cool would it be to toast an amazing bottle that I already love? When I discovered this product, it was already on its way to my house. My first experiments were with Maker's Mark Cask Strength and Michter's Straight Rye. I broke off a piece about 1 inch and ended it up in a 4 Roses Small Batch Select bottle (the spiral didn't fit in any other bottle I had). I left it on for about 4-5 days and it was perfect. My observation was that once the piece of the tower had absorbed enough alcohol to sink into the bottle, it was done. It was about 3-4 days. Of course we can have different tastes, so take a sip every day and drink when you feel like it. The mixer was great but my friend had already shown me the gold standard which was a roasted mixer stick and nothing with a mid 80's proof could compare. I'm excited to find more things to try and hope that my friends at the local bourbon club will share their findings with me as they experiment. If you're drawn to finished roasted-flavored bourbon, you'll really love what they can put in your bottles. It's just as nice to let others try what you've created and to praise your work. If you create something amazing, please leave a review here so I can find new things to try.
