To be honest, this is also your only real choice for 1" carbon steerer tubes. There are several alternatives for 1 1/8" but that's all I could find for 1". Let's just say it works really well. It grips the sides with enough force to pinch without deforming the tube, sending the fork into the trash heap. Remember that you still have to carefully tighten the screw. Applying too much force would be devastating. I was careful and the second time I did it perfectly. All I had to do was tighten the top bolt properly to get rid of play in the fork.
