Description of 🎧 Neco Headset Expander Top Cap | Star Nut Plug Bolt | Stem Expanding Nut Bolt | Carbon Fiber Cap Cover | Long/Large Size

STRONG COMPRESSOR - Compression plug is good for carbon tube, it offers stronger force and can protect the carbon tube as well. (Star nut is only for aluminum tube). LARGE SIZE - Bigger compressor is more stronger and safety. We offer expander depth 2 inch and 3 inch. 2 inch is large size, 3 inch in extra large. We recommend 2 inch for most scenario. Strong enough but budget cost. 1” & 1 - 1/8” - Small size is for 1” tube, inner diameter 20-22.2mm. Middle & large & extra large is for 1-1/8”, inner diameter 22-25.4mm. Cabon cap version looks very great. We recommend large size and cabon cap. Aluminum cap offered as well. Neco 100% made in Taiwan, high quality components and surface treatment, excellent strength for all heavy duty cycling.

Does what it should.

2 inch version used. Worked as expected. On the heavy side; But having used the lighter versions of expander forks in the past, this product is reassuring.

Simple product, great upgrade

I saw this extension in a bike assembly video. It was recommended as a replacement for the stock carbon head tube extension as it is approximately 50% longer and provides more stem support. Nothing fancy, just a little extra support where needed.

complete failure. Not installed.

Doesn't work! I couldn't remove the top cover to insert and tighten the compression fitting, which is the first step. Tried in a vice and with a vice. I tried unscrewing wd-40 to no avail. waste of money. Buy star nuts instead. If you have carbon handlebars, buy another brand.

Pros

Cons
  • Reliability

ALWAYS USE A TORQUE WRENCH, mixed review, I came back for two reasons. 1) has a lip so it stays on top of the head tube, I wanted it to be lowered a bit for a snug fit. 2) slipped when trying to preload the headsets to 1.8Nm, I should have tightened the spark plug to 8-9Nm NOT 6-7Nm. These larger surface area spark plugs require more torque, which is not listed in the instructions. Smaller plugs require less torque to hold, too much torque on a small plug can deform the steering column.

Best choice for carbon headsets

To be honest, this is also your only real choice for 1" carbon steerer tubes. There are several alternatives for 1 1/8" but that's all I could find for 1". Let's just say it works really well. It grips the sides with enough force to pinch without deforming the tube, sending the fork into the trash heap. Remember that you still have to carefully tighten the screw. Applying too much force would be devastating. I was careful and the second time I did it perfectly. All I had to do was tighten the…
