My 5 month old miniature poodle went into flower beds after being poisoned (fire ant killer) and although I do would give the command "LEAVE IT", she would still return to the location and sniff. I ordered this hoping to withhold this action. I immediately tested the "Zap" function at level 1 and EVERY OWNER SHOULD CHECK THIS THEMSELVES so that they fully respect what you command. NO, I DID NOT PLAN TO DISCONNECT IT AFTER CHECKING MY HAND. I then put a collar on her and, as expected, she ran in the yard to the poison hill. I yelled "Leave it!" and hit the BEEP button. She paused before sniffing the mound, then immediately turned away. YES SHE STOPPED AND TURNED AWAY. On her next walk in the yard she did the same: I gave a VERBAL COMMAND "Leave it", pressed the SOUND button, but this time she stopped at the embankment, so I immediately gave another verbal command "Leave it" , but press the VIBRATION button once. She immediately ran to me and was totally scared! Ironically, after about 3-4 days, I didn't even need to use the beep function anymore as she was listening out of fear/attention from the verbal command alone, knowing the collar would beep/vibrate. So why the caution? My dog is only 10.5lbs and after speaking to the manufacturer they told me the minimum should be 15lbs so I have to return him. CONCLUSION: What an amazing workout product with great results. I would never use the shock function. I think a pet owner should only use the shock feature if they (maybe) have an aggressive dog. Since then I have ordered another toy dog collar and NO SHOCK (vibration only). I haven't used this feature since she found out about the issue. MY TIP: Before you rely on a training collar, you should already have started practicing the verbal commands "leave", "come" (so they don't run away, come to you on command), etc. THEN IF YOU ARE BORN STRONG Use this beep/vibrate collar. Great product and excellent customer service. Finally a charge and collar for a few days before returning it.
