I don't know why there are so many conflicting reviews about this car. I have severe dry mouth from medication and the only thing that helps is ice shavings. I would say I shave lightly with at least ten pounds of ice a day. I used to have an ice razor from another brand but it is very similar to this one and lasted about two years. Other than that, this machine seems to shave ice like a pro machine, is quieter than my previous machine, and shaves ice cubes better. A few tips that work well for me is to add ice cubes to the machine to start chilling. This helps ensure you have very loose ice chips. I've found that once I cool down, I also shave what I need for part of the day. . I put my styrofoam cups in there or pre-chill a large Bubba cup or other cup designed to keep your drink cold. Then I add ice chips and store it in the freezer until ready to use. It helps to have the coldest ice chips, and it doesn't melt as quickly. As my family would say, I have a science! For those talking about the mess, I put a towel under mine and learned how to rotate the bowl while shaving to reduce excess spray. However, keep in mind that a professional machine can cost $1,000 or more.
