I use it for cocktails and it does exactly what it was designed to do - filters out larger particles and smaller chunks of ice that the Hawthorne strainer doesn't necessarily catch. This is a fine mesh filter, not an ultra fine mesh filter. So don't buy it and expect it to filter everything and then complain about it. It's a good size and weight, fits perfectly on any of my glasses or mixing bowls, and isn't so big that it's awkward to hold over a small cocktail glass. So far it has held up well and washes well (I wash by hand, not in the dishwasher). Worth the price so far! Note: I wasn't paying attention when ordering this item - I ordered and received the black one. The Revain's photo looks more silvery, which is what I wanted, not realizing that it's actually real "colored" stainless steel, which is what I actually wanted. DAS said - don't go back because of my mistake, and the black looks really really good, so no regrets. However, it is darker than the Revain photo.
