I've been using the Sony/Minolta Mount Sigma 50-500mm 4-6.3 lens for a long time (no HSM and OS) and I like this lens although it's a bit blurry at 500mm. He rarely left my cell. I've used it for bird watching and some semi-macro photography and got some great shots with it. I thought long and hard about upgrading and finally did it. I wish I had sooner! The new 50-500 is much sharper and the OS on the lens works really well. And the HSM is quiet, the lens without the HSM is much louder, at first I thought the new lens was broken because I couldn't hear it focusing after years with the old lens. Paired with the Sony A65, this lens stopped down to f8 at 500mm, which is very close to the sharpness of my Sigma 500mm 4.5 Prime. The old 50-500 wasn't even close. This is a heavy lens, but I've been handheld with the old 50-500 for many years. And I look forward to using this lens in the same way. This is a great lens and I'm very glad I bought it.
