Sharp, narrow scissors.
Every time I turn my head, my son "borrows" my 40 year old Fiskars scissors (which were still nice and sharp) for some terribly important things college do boys with scissors. I decided to keep my favorite pair of scissors for my son and bought 2 of these as they were Singer and pink. I kept a pair in each of the two drawers on my sewing table. I've used them for trimming a small amount of fabric, for example trimming off excess fabric when hemming a dress, and a lot for trimming threads.
