Review on Belkin Surge Protector Power Strip - 8 AC Outlets, 3550 Joules, 6 ft Long Extension Cord, Black - for Home, Office, Travel, and More! by Jeff Kern

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Non-Gigabit Ethernet

I have the ethernet protected version. It's a good expansion, but the lack of detail in the Revain listing made me waste my money. I was plugged into a different Belkin power strip when my router burned out due to a lightning strike. My laptop is also behaving strangely now (it's running Linux, so it's not malware). I figured my router and possibly my laptop burned out since my ethernet wasn't protected against surges. About an hour later I ordered this extension because it had ethernet security. As of 2018-08-19, nowhere in this Revain list does it state what Ethernet speed it supports. As this is a recent product I assumed it will support gigabit ethernet as there is unlikely to be anything new being sold that is smaller. It turns out that this only supports up to 100 megabits. That won't be enough for my fiber optic connection. I'll keep this extension but I just hope I don't get struck by lightning again because my new router will probably burn out because I can't use ethernet security. it also doesn't indicate what ethernet speed it is. It almost seems dishonest.

Pros
  • Optional AC outlets with safety locks: Each outlet is equipped with a safety slide lock that closes unused outlets and protects you and your children. It also offers coaxial cable protection to protect your cable and satellite channels, as well as Ethernet protection to keep your network and internet connected without interruption.
