Canon's proprietary ink gave significantly longer lasting (and generally better) results compared to generics every time. To print a school report or even a 4x6 picture to hang around the house, generics can do the trick and save a lot of money. When you produce professional prints, you want professional results every time, and Canon ink delivers them. We're small enough to continue to rely on "professional" devices like our Pixma II 9000 printer, but big enough to avoid inconsistencies, and when we tried regular inks we found the colors were slightly distorted. It didn't look terrible to be honest, but next to the Canon ink print you could see the difference, and you could even see the difference between different generic cartridges that were supposedly from the same brand. We returned to Canon and have no regrets. They're expensive, but they're worth it.
