Review on Optimized Performance Filter for KN 303 Motorcycle Powersports by Bryan Maignan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

K&N 303 fits perfectly on the 2007 Kawasaki Ninja ZX14. Easy installation thanks to the end nut.

⁃ Black K&N 303 fits my 2007 Kawasaki Ninja ZX14. ⁃ It said "Made in Thailand". ⁃ It comes with a protective polyethylene cap around the other/hollow end of the filter. ⁃ The description says the seal comes pre-lubricated, but I lubricated the seal with clean oil, just in case, the same Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 synthetic oil I used to change the oil. ⁃ I'm glad I bought this end nut filter. I tried to remove the OEM Kawasaki oil filter but it was very difficult for me. I tried removing the filter with the correct/correct oil filter cap wrench but it didn't move. The edges where the filter wrench sticks began to round off, and I realized I was in for a long, sweaty oil change. I had to use large pliers to carefully unscrew the oil filter. What took about an hour turned into a full day job as I had to run to the shop and buy other keys that didn't work and check notes from other owners of the same bike on internet bike forums. I was lucky that the filter finally moved. Many people on motorcycle forums have chosen to pierce the filter with a screwdriver (for the lever) as a last resort to remove it! ⁃ On this particular bike (2007 Kawasaki Ninja ZX14) the 17mm socket runs on top of the K&N filter end nut and removes both sump drain plugs which you loosen to drain the oil from the sump. So you only need one outlet for the entire exercise, and that's a good thing. ⁃ The filter appears to be of good quality and looks like an OEM Kawasaki filter. ⁃ The end nut is particularly useful for tightening the oil filter to the correct torque. The manufacturer insists that the oil filter is tightened, not hand tightened and should not. ⁃ This motorcycle has the oil filter torqued to 31 Nm (23 ft/lb). End nut makes tightening easier. With a small extension bar, a torque wrench and a 17mm socket, you can tighten the oil filter without interfering with the exhaust pipes underneath. It feels "just right" when tightened and the nut didn't "round out" during installation. ⁃ It has a hole at the end of the nut for those who race and all of its parts need to be connected during the race. ⁃ No leaks yet in 2 weeks and 250 miles. I bought another K&N oil filter and refilled it for my next oil change in 3,000 miles. I never want to have the experience of trying to get another filter without an end cap.
