This is exactly what I needed to raise the handlebars on the Specialized Rockhopper 19". With the seat raised for the 6' 1" position was the original stem height too low. . This resulted in wrist pain and numbness in the hands about 10 minutes into the ride. Short version: This is a great value product for the average driver. And it extends my bike's usefulness from an aggressive downhill stance to a more exercise-oriented road riding stance. When you find yourself weighing ounces on a carbon fiber bike, it annoys you. If you're looking to reuse your existing bike and need a better fit with a few simple modifications, read up on how a threadless headset works, then give it a try. Long Version: - You will need a 5"+ extension cord to a screwdriver or T-handle hex wrench to install the torx screw. Note that this center screw only sets the TENSION for the headset bearing. It DOES NOT transmit the full force that comes with holding the bearing set together with the stem. The pressure from the stem side when tightening the two rear bolts keeps the load on the headset bearing. To test your confidence, you should be able to use the center bolt and the Remove the cover completely (leaving the two rear screws) and all - If you are unfamiliar with this threadless headset setup, you MUST find it in photos and videos using the many training resources available online, or give your bike to someone who does Otherwise you can damage the headset, create a dangerous situation for the driver or with a v reasonable equipment can be extremely frustrated. - In my case I prefer full height adjustment. I may have to adjust the saddle and handlebar hardware a bit. But my first test rides improved the starting height significantly. I put my hands on the steering wheel a lot less and have a more upright (albeit less aerodynamic) posture. The bike is definitely heavier but I'm looking for comfort and don't need singletrack agility for what I'm doing now. The nice thing is that the bike can be easily restored to its original configuration. I had to replace the FRONT BRAKE CABLE to use the full height adjustment. It was easy to replace with a Revain brake cable kit. All other cables had enough slack to be used as is. The front brake cable can be reused if you don't reach full height or already have enough cable slack for the riser. The two rear screws are not of the highest quality - I recommend replacing them if you can easily get the screws from a hardware store. They seem adequate for what I do. I went with the aluminum fairing model because it matches the rest of the bike's hardware. I don't intend to go hard downhill anymore, so I have no opinion or useful data on whether this component is a "trail rating". The above is based on the initial ride on the first day of installation. Happy and safe driving!
