Review on Alxum Universal Connector Adapter for Seamless Device Connectivity by Phil Casey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well designed and easy to use. Fast USB 3.0 IDE hard drive transfer; worked for my playstation 2 games!

Bought to install my Playstation 2 physical drives on an internal hard drive in the console - which only uses the older, less common IDE hard drive interface. I wanted a new adapter and this Alxum converter stood out because it offered a faster USB 3.0 interface. I rarely see old IDE interfaces ever connected to modern transfer rates, so I decided to give this adapter a try. It works with both desktop and laptop IDEs, as well as the more common SATA drives, but these days they're a dime a dozen, so the highlight here for me was the IDE interface. I used to use IDE converters that had a separate power supply that went straight to the desktop hard drive, but instead the Alxum power cord goes to the adapter and a 4-pin molex jumper then goes to the hard drive's power input. This seems to be a much more stable connection method (versus a USB powered adapter) and there is a power switch on the adapter itself. Beautiful, uncluttered design. I only tested the desktop IDE, but it worked great and my drive was immediately recognized by WIINHP as a PS2 format drive. The USB 3.0 file transfer connection was FAST - definitely up to the task of transferring my PS2 games efficiently. The build and cable quality is excellent, the packaging is neat and professional. A service disk was included to facilitate the one-touch backup feature, but I didn't need to use it. Everything worked out of the box, plug and play - for my purposes. While I didn't expect my task to go so smoothly, this adapter really helped with its ease of use and I'm very happy with this purchase.
