Review on Giro Sentrie Techlace Cycling Shoes Men's Shoes and Athletic by William Burnett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best shoe I could find - performance, weight, color, durability, comfort

I've tried a lot of mountain bike shoes, mostly expensive, high-end models. The Gyro Carbide with a mesh upper is by far the best I could find. I bought some gray models from NOS because the gray ones are out of production now. I like the gray color because I also use it for road biking and the heat of the sun is a big problem with black boots. Key feature is the reinforcement of the upper at the pedal point, which has very little stretch. Most other boots I've tried (including high-end shoes) have significant stretch across the pedal contact point, which affects upstroke and cleat release. Location. The ratchet should make contact with the pedal where the velcro straps sometimes come loose. The Giro Carbide is also one of the lightest MTB shoes and offers a high level of comfort. The shoe did not disappoint except for a slight loosening of the Velcro. I'm very picky about shoes when I mountain bike 3-4 times a week year-round (although I use Shimano insulated shoes in frigid weather). Carbide shoes are very durable. All of the padding looks like new, including under the heel counter where most shoes start to show signs of wear. When I close my eyes and squeeze the seal on both the new pair and my 10 year old pair I don't notice any difference. I always clean new shoes and clean them regularly after extreme use. The top always looks almost new. And the soles have an amazing worn look without much wear and tear. None of the seams came undone. Also between sole and shaft. Even my previous Shimano shoes had a split sole. Shimano is definitely one of the highest quality accessory manufacturers. Thanks to the three Velcro straps, I rarely have to adjust my fit while riding. If so, then only once after warming up. Carbide are extremely durable and comfortable high-performance shoes. If you buy Carbide be sure to get the mesh upper as it will keep you cool. In the photo 10 years old, 5 years old, new shoes. Hard profile on the outsole. 10-year-old shoes are now mainly designed for road use. I've switched from SPD pedals to Look pedals on all my bikes to keep the cleats looking new on 10 year old shoes.

Pros
  • Techlace Closure System: Featuring a Techlace closure system, these shoes offer unparalleled adjustability and comfort. The intuitive nature of the Techlace system means you can make adjustments quickly and easily on the go.
Cons
  • May not provide enough ankle support for riders who need it.
