Main Product: Tripods & Monopods

I've used ball and pan heads on my monopod but this is my first pan head and it works great. It supports my heavy 600mm lens, which I can now move up or down while watching ice hockey and field sports (soccer, soccer, field hockey, etc.) without having to awkwardly tilt the monopod. That doesn't seem like a big deal, but it makes it much smoother to follow the action than if the lens were attached to a standard monopod screw mount. And unlike the ball and pan heads I've tried, this pan head doesn't wobble or need constant tightening when attaching a heavy lens to a monopod. Another thing I love about this durable and affordable mount is the quick release (QR) mechanism. So far I've only used Swiss-style Arca QRs and found them a bit unwieldy. Procedure for attaching a lens or camera: 1. Turn the knob to open the mount wide; 2. Tilt the lens or camera at an angle and install one side of the mounting plate; 3. Support the lens/camera and monopod with one hand/arm, attach the other side of the mounting plate, and then secure it by tightening the knob. With a long, bulky, and heavy lens, I often felt that it would be quicker and more convenient to just screw the monopod onto the support leg. much less popular than the Arca-Swiss style described above. Assembly begins exactly as in STEP 1 above, but once one side of the mounting plate is in place, simply flip the other side down. At this point, the plate comes into contact with a small knob on the bracket, which automatically releases the other side of the mounting clip, which snaps onto the base plate. Then pull a small lever to tighten the clamp even more. Turning this lever in the other direction releases the bottom plate, allowing the lens to be quickly removed after shooting. This process is much simpler than the Arca-Swiss style and I'm confused as to why the latter seems to have become the QR of choice. in today's photo. But I'm so impressed with the QR this top mount uses that I'll be replacing all of my Arca Swiss QR Ball and Flathead QRs unless I find a fault while I'm using them in the next ones Weeks more use with this style.
