I bought this item because I needed a fireproof safe for documents and jewelry. I agree this product is probably fireproof (but there is no temp rating on the box or document) as it is steel but has 4 holes to mount the safe to the wall. In the event of a fire, these openings allow fire access to the vault, especially if the vault wall is on fire (and unsecured, of course) - both fire and possibly water can enter the vault. Below does not say it is a flame retardant/heat resistant material. I solved the problem with both the holes and the gasket by first inserting metal bolts into the safe holes (since the bolts that come with the safe are not fire retardant) and buying a fire retardant cloth. I will also put all documents in a fireproof bag.
