Our German Shepherd is responsible for almost all the mess on the floor. Lots and lots of hair, sure, but it also tracks volcanic pebbles (the size of a popcorn seed and smaller) and pine needles that make vacuuming difficult. Even brooms choke on hair. This head (it's just a head with retractable brushes) is different in that it doesn't choke on the fur when the brushes are retracted. The metal plate will scratch the floor but leave no visible mark on our vinyl plank floor; It's a decently smooth metal finish, so I don't expect hardwood to be an issue. I'm considering gluing pieces of felt to the ends to keep the metal off the surface a bit. At first I thought the price would allow me to at least experiment with it, and I was surprised at how well it handles dog hair: just step on the pedal to turn on the brushes for finer debris.
