Works well. Any USB port will work just as well as AC outlets. My only criticism of all manufacturers is the USB connection. I don't understand why all USB ports are not rated for 3 amps. If each port is 5 volts DC at 3 amps, that would mean 110 volts AC at 0.14 amps (110 AC becomes 5 DC) multiplied by 9 ports gives about 1.26 amps. P = IE and will be around 139 watts at 110ac. This is less than a 150W incandescent bulb. I know this is an oversimplification, but I'll try to emphasize that there's no reason why the ports can't be rated at 3 amps each. Also, each device has its own regulator that prevents overloading of the charging process. BTW, 5x3x9 = 135 watts at 5 dc, close enough.
