Review on Bilstein 24-187237 Rear Shock: Premium Replacement for GM Tahoe/Avalanche/Silver Models by Jeremy Meyer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good shock absorbers but new springs are needed!

I gave this product 5 stars but was a little dissatisfied when I found out a few months later that the springs also needed changing. I believe that is true in some or most cases. If your car has ZW7 (Nivomat) suspension, these shock absorbers will fit, but you will also need to change the springs! Genuine Sachs shocks are higher pressure and are designed to work with stock springs to support some of the vehicle's weight. Bilstein shock absorbers do not support the vehicle. I didn't notice any difference on an empty car, but a load or a trailer can be a problem if you don't change the springs. They need to replace the stock springs for my car with Bilstein springs, 199020. Nice ride but extra work and about $120 more.
