I have been working and raising birds since 1988. This is the best way to protect the perch and ensure that when your bird perches it has an opportunity to file its claws. I clean up perches, but sometimes I put them in spots where the birds fly the most. Often you can't remove the perches, they sit too tight in the cage and you don't want your bird to fly out. Use one of them to make the bird sit on a clean spot and file its claws.
