Review on πŸ“€ Optimized 9-inch Portable DVD Player (DS9521PK) by Julius Lito

Revainrating 2 out of 5

90 days guarantee, for any reason.

I knew it wasn't a great player when I bought it. I only have it for occasional use when we are in the car with our little one for over an hour or so. Since I bought it in March, this player has been used an average of 6 times less per month. It worked fine until last week when the warranty expired and the disc it normally watches stopped playing. I tried the movie in our home player and found that it would work (at least load the menu) where it wouldn't even read the disc in the portable player. I turned on another movie (making sure it was playing in my home player first) and it started spinning and making a noise that I had noticed before but thought was normal operation. I took out the disc and found out why it was making noise and why the disc stopped playing after a while. The disc stopped playing after a try or two because the ribbon cable connecting the laser to the player was kinked and the starter motor was stuck in the disc tray. Because the disc spins so fast, there are scratches on the outside of the disc I'm playing. So far at least two of the discs I've put in have been damaged, one won't play at all and the other has problems at certain points in the movie. Not only do I have a useless player that's out of warranty in a few weeks, I also have two damaged films. It looks like the tape needs to be attached to the bottom of the player, probably with glue, and it's come loose, leaving the cable with just enough slack to touch the disc. However, what I really liked was the included headrest mount. Of all the portable players I tried, this one had the best headrest mount. It was easy to set up and was easy to switch to another car if I needed to move it. Although it was difficult for me to insert the bracket into the player for one point. It has three dots that plug into the player and I figured I'd break this thing if I tried to install all 3. The remote is almost useless as it has to be pointed directly at the infrared port (which, when headrest mounted, is in the top part of the player) so you can't sit from your viewing position and use the remote without it bend down and point the remote control at the top of the player. I don't like that the player doesn't pick up the movie where I left off. goes out when it is turned on again. If I stop I have to hope the battery lasts or else the disc will start over and I have to wait for the preview to play before the menu comes up as not all discs support skipping the preview. Hourly playtime is much longer than advertised, playing no more than 45 minutes on a fully charged battery. I guess I should have known you get what you pay for. Although I expect something that costs $100 (and is outdated by today's technology, so should be cheap) to last more than three months. Next time I will buy a Sony product. I had a Tview player in our other car and had problems that sort of resolved themselves and I know that Tview makes very cheap and poor quality players. At least I had the option to play SD card movies on Tview and it only cost $120. I would have given it one star if it wasn't for the headrest attachment and the fact that I actually knew it deep down. would become garbage.
