This is the perfect stone to give a very nice edge to a small Opinel knife. It works better with carbon steel than stainless steel as stainless steel tends to be harder. It's too small for a large knife or one that needs frequent re-sharpening, but can certainly be used as a last resort. This is the stone to use regularly before the knife becomes too dull to keep a good edge. The compact form factor makes it ideal for portability in the field. I've also used it dry and don't feel like it needs to be wet to use. Note. This rock is thinner than your knife handle, so you'll need to put it on something to lift it to compensate. This is a compromise compared to its small size and weight. This stone is great.
