Good alternative to Shapton Pro #8000 (US version)

This is the Japanese version of Shapton Pro stones. They differ in price by about $30 a brick, but as far as I can tell they're pretty much the same as the US version. I've read in some marketing materials that the two versions are worded differently to account for the different climate/humidity but this could be a marketing ploy. I also think they are not covered by the same Shapton warranty in the US so be careful. It gives my blades an almost mirror-like shine. I use them on kitchen knives in a variety of steels including some high carbon Japanese knives. I can get them sharp with a crack if I work a little. However, this grit is useless on some of my cheaper knives that don't get or stay as sharp. For these knives, I'll settle for a #5000 or even a #1000 - sharp enough for kitchen use.
