No question - why isn't this standard equipment?

I love my 2008 Pepper White Mini Cooper S Clubman except for two things: 1) the drivability is a bit harsh (although I love karting for handling) and 2) the turbo lag when launching from a standstill. I bought a K&N Typhoon Cold Air Intake (CAI) to help with torque and acceleration (HP) in hopes of improving the turbo lag situation. As a Prime member, my order arrived on the 2nd day and was well packaged. We cleaned up the instructions and it took about an hour to install. There are no installation problems at all. Fit was very good. I previously watched an online installation video which helped with a smooth installation. Results: Turbo Lag - GONE! Acceleration: Noticeably improved, especially at higher revs. A couple of notes though: There is a slightly noticeable vacuum noise under heavy acceleration and deceleration which I believe is an increase in airflow into the turbine. It is not audible in normal use, but only when you hit it hard. Plus, I'm almost out of my first tank of gas with the new CAI, and in addition to the extra horses and torque, I get a 3+ mpg improvement over the stock shot. The added MPG makes this addition a breeze. As for the cost, I'm surprised it's not standard equipment. And did I mention the air filter is washable (recommended every 50,000 miles or less depending on driving conditions).
