Biscuit sized quality stones for rough sharpening in the field

I ordered these stones out of curiosity: I have always sharpened axes with a file, and I've never sharpened a machete (intentionally cheaper) low carbon steel, but you can always increase your stroke. Two double-grit, cookie-sized whetstones were wrapped in bubble wrap (no damage) and placed in a cardboard box; there were NO instructions. I do NOT agree with the image on the website: based on texture and sharpening performance, I believe the lighter side of the sharpening stone is a coarser 180 grit and the darker side of the sharpening stone is a finer 320 grit. Leave the sharpening stone in the bowl water I dug out an ax and a machete. The ax was sharpened with a file and the main notches were sawed off. (I'm not worried about small nicks because the next cut will have more nicks.) I used a 180 grit whetstone, the lighter side, to hone the ax blade; this treatment destroyed a comparatively large amount of metal and visibly wore the whetstone, although I lowered the whetstone back into the water bowl from time to time. I then polished the new edge of the ax with a 320 whetstone, the darker side. I used a 180 grit whetstone to sharpen the edge of the machete; This treatment also destroyed comparatively much metal and visibly wore down the wet grindstone. 320 grit whetstone, darker side, didn't polish the machete much. Let the sharpener dry completely before packing it, otherwise you may find moldy cookies next time you use it. Axes and machetes are brute force tools that are not expected to have a thin edge and no one wants to destroy their whetstones on brute force tools. . (I sharpened wood chisels on my regular whetstones.) These high-quality, biscuit-sized whetstones are perfect for rough sharpening in the field: they're well packaged, just add a picnic table and a pot of water to sharpen and it's just that Proper activity that boys love to engage while they sit and share stories at the campsite.
