If the key holder doesn't fit your pulley, you may need to turn the water pump. My water pump pulley bolts aren't in a perfect square - they're something like X's on their side. The key didn't fit at first, but after turning the pump it fitted fine. I had disconnected the thermostat hoses (it's always recommended to replace them when you build a pump) so it was easy to get the holder and wrench in there. My nut was rusty so I carefully fired the PB blaster. After soaking for about 15 minutes, a light tap with a hammer was enough to break the bolt. Remember this is a reverse thread. I have a 2004 E46 325.
