I find these crayons firm, but buttery soft to use. My only regret is that I didn't look for a set that had more! The colors are strong and I haven't found any paper that has caused any problems so far. It seems to me that paper is a big factor in judging colored pencils. Also, I have occasional issues with some pencils hurting my hands. I feel comfortable in it, my hands don't hurt. They have Asian characters, possibly Chinese for identification. If you like to paint, I recommend trying it out.
