Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Optimized Kool Stop MTB Mountain Bike Brake Pads by Chris Benton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Once set up properly, these are easily the best pads you can buy.

I've been using these Kool-Stop MTN pads for a long time. These are easily the best rim brake pads I have ever used. If you can fit these pads on your bike, get them! Braking performance is amazing. The extra contact surface and the red mixture work wonders. My Trek Soho city bike stops just as well (if not better) than my disc brake gravel bike just by changing the pads! Another plus is that they are pretty good even on wet roads. Not as good as disc brakes (yes), but they seem to remove water/dirt from the rim better than other pads I've tried. A few tips: 1.) Make sure you take the time to set them up correctly (ie toe-in). They can be very noisy (especially in rainy weather) if you don't have your toe adjusted. 2.) When installing, be sure to go through the contact surface of your rim and clean thoroughly. I like to use a plain green cloth and a microfiber cloth. 3.) If you have cleaned the rims well and still see black streaks on the rim surface, take a nail file and rub the rim surface thoroughly. This will eliminate the streaks and leave you with a nice clean braking surface. 4.) If you ride a lot in wet or inclement weather, you should wipe down the surface of the pads after each ride. They remove sand and dirt from the rim well, but the downside is that the pads themselves get dirty.
